Motherhood is new to our cycle of miners and as the first generation of women in the Australian mining industry there's a perception that motherhood and mining don't mix.
It's true that as mothers, there are great challenges to maintaining our work and careers. Yet I believe it's time we got together to show that mining is a great industry for all people, including mothers.
Mining Mums celebrates the extraordinary journey of being a mother and a woman in mining. Very simply, Mining Mums is about what I call the 3 Cs: Commitment, Contribute and Collaborate.
Mining Mums offers an environment where women encourage and nurture each other to succeed; sharing experiences and contributing to the discussion on the rights available to pregnant women, those on maternity leave and those returning to work after having a baby.
Mining is well and truly in my blood; it's always been part of my life. I am a fourth generation miner and proud to follow in the footsteps of my great-grandfather, grandfather and father. But, as you can guess, I'm the first female in the family to do so. And I truly hope I won't be the last.
For the last 10 years I've been working to improve the ratio of women in the
mining industry. Mining Mums is my passion and I'd love for you to join us.
